Gabr el Bint - Camel Dive Safari
Leaving Dahab at around 07.30 we drive south along
the coast to Wadi Shahira, where we join the camels.
After
a 15 minute rest during which the Bedouin load the
equipment onto the camels we set off again and enjoy
an amazing 1 hr camel ride along the magnificent coastline.
Arriving at Gabr
el Bint we rest a little whilst sipping delicious
and refreshing Bedouin tea. Once the tea break is over
we prepare for the first dive by checking all the equipment
and receiving a full briefing from our experienced dive
master.
The first dive at this unspoiled reef will really blow
you away! There is an enormous forest of Gorgonia fan
corals and a huge variety of fish species darting about
in between the awesome underwater rock formations.
After a delicious lunch, freshly prepared by our Bedouin
guides and a little relaxation time we prepare for the
second dive of the day. This is a drift dive along the
spectacular drop off where it is not at all uncommon
for one to see turtles, rays and even sharks. Naturally
there are also a number of interesting corals along
the route and also more fish species too!
Once out of the water we have time to relax, drink tea
and possibly have a short snorkel whilst the Bedouins
pack up the camels for the return journey. During the
ride back we can take in the breathtaking sunset over
the rugged Sinai mountains and watch as the colours
change from golden orange to flame red and then to dusty
purple. Definitely a sight to behold.
Ras Mamlah/Ras Abu Galum
Protectorate - Jeep Dive Safari
Leaving Dahab at 08:00 we drive off road to Ras Mamlah,
a deserted spot in between Dahab and Nuweiba. Upon
arrival we enjoy a reviving cup of Bedouin tea and
then get ready for our first dive. After checking our
equipment and receiving a thorough briefing we are
ready to experience the thrill of a Ras Mamlah dive.
The geography of this site has been dramatically altered
by earthquakes and the result is truly spectacular;
incredible drop offs play host to a massive variety
of reef fish and reef sharks are often spotted at
this site. It is quite an amazing dive as we can see
that the damage done by nature ultimately adds to the beauty
of this underwater location.
After a delicious 'al fresco' lunch prepared by our Bedouin
companions we are ready for the second dive. Once again the sights
are awesome, the fish plentiful and the coral, much
of it in the process of being regenerated after the damage caused by earthquakes,
is unusual in formation. This is the
spot for an adventurous and challenging day's diving.
