Gabriele Pointner

I came to Dahab in July 1993 and was supposed to stay only until Christmas. Now I am married to Khaled, have two boys and a growing business! But I figure this is how it goes sometimes in life!
Originally from Austria, I turned from an enthusiastic skier into an even more passionate diver. Since 1994 I have been working as a PADI Instructor and over the last 9 years I have involved myself, being a professional teacher, more and more in the Instructor Development process. Five times a year I teach PADI IDCs and other instructor-level courses which keeps me quite busy! In SUB SINAI I take care of all the diving related issues, practically and administration wise, and of course I teach all levels of PADI courses. Having studied anthropology I really love to introduce our guests to the culture and lifestyle of the local Bedouin people, as many of them are neighbours and great personal friends. Apart from that my two boys keep me busy and I am also known for baking fantastic cakes!

Khaled Amin

I am originally from Cairo but came to Sinai some 15 years ago in order to escape the noise and crowds of the city. As my profession as an optician didn't seem adventurous enough I got involved in trekking and climbing and worked for several years with a travel agency organizing Safari and Trekking tours in South Sinai and the Western Desert. After I became a PADI Assistant/Instructor in 1993 and gained a good amount of diving and guiding experience, I decided to open up my own Safari/Trekking/Dive Center. SINAI ADVENTURES/SUB SINAI was "born" in 1998 and since then all my effort goes, next to my family, into our business.
I am mainly responsible for the overall organization within the company, the marketing side of life, all technical matters and of course my great passion, the desert and the mountains!

Donna

Donna joined the team in August 2004. In Dahab since 2002, she knows the local Bedouin community “inside out” and is passionately interested in the desert and mountain areas of Sinai. In addition to her  previous experience in this field, she has been guiding tours for SINAI ADVENTURES since the winter of 2004 and her guests always return to Dahab having gained considerable insight into the culture and the traditions of their Bedouin hosts. 
When she is not leading treks, Donna is also responsible for handling the reservations and booking enquiries received. Her mother tongue is English but she is also fluent in German and French and has a good command of Bedouin Arabic. Her knowledge of these various languages stands her in good stead both in the office and the desert! When not occupied with trips or the computer, Donna is most likely to be found in the sea. She is a keen swimmer and likes to jump in daily, even when the water temperature drops to a fresh 19 degrees!

Ahmed Hafez

Licentiate in Arts (Ancient Egyptian Archeology Department)
Ahmed Hafez has been with Sub Sinai since the very beginning. Trained by Gabi he has all the best qualities that make an inspirational teacher. He is a really thorough diving instructor and has literally hundreds of certs to his credit. He has many years experience as a diving professional and his knowledge regarding diving techniques and the diving sites in South Sinai is unsurpassable. Ahmed is famous for his unlimited patience and easy going nature; he can calm the fears of even the most nervous of novice divers, turning them into confident, capable and responsible scuba enthusiasts. Many of his PADI Open Water students return to Sub Sinai and Ahmed to further their diving qualifications because he is such a popular individual and such an approachable professional. We think we are lucky to have him on our team and the many students who return and request him as their instructor and guide obviously agree. He speaks Arabic and very good English.

Waleed

Waleed, originally from Cairo, works with us since 2002, first as a Divemaster, since last year as a PADI Instructor. Waleed is famous for his permanent good mood (even before early morning dives!) and his friendliness. Students love him as he always finds a way to overcome little problems or has a solution and answer to various questions. His passion seems to be the German language as he doesn�t give up studying, despite his busy schedule.

Waleed is not just an excellent instructor, he also guides tours into the desert and especially enjoys the Mountainbike Safaris SUB SINAI offers.

His competence and love for the Sinai, underwater and above, make him THE perfect person to take care of our guests!
 

Amr Kamal

Safari Guide
Amr Kamal is one of the best safari guides working in Egypt today. Having worked as a guide for the last 15 years his knowledge and experience regarding the Western Desert and the Sinai are unrivalled. Originally trained by Khaled, the two of them worked together for many years in the late 1980's and early 90's trekking in the high mountain regions of the Sinai and in the lower deserts and wadis. Based in Cairo where he has his family, Amr doesn't actually get to spend much time there, as there is such a high demand for his services. Although a freelancer, he is our number one guide and extremely popular with all those who have been introduced to the wonders of the desert by him. Any tour with Amr is guaranteed to be an educational and highly enjoyable experience and one that will stay in the memory of the trekkers for a lifetime. His professionalism and easy charm mean that he is hugely popular, not just with the tourists but also with the Bedouin tribes of Sinai, who appreciate his straightforward attitude and his genuine love of their culture. He speaks Arabic and very good English.

Anter

Anter has been with Sub Sinai for a number of years and is irreplaceable. He is originally from Kena in Upper Egypt but has been based in Dahab for the last 8 years. He has many talents and is our 'man Friday'. His duties include maintainance of the dive centre and tent camp, supervising any building projects and preparing all the equipment and food for the safaris. He is also responsible for the gardens and liaising with any outside contractors being used by SUB SINAI.
